‘Equinox’, a layered exhibition of paintings and sculptures

With this body of work, Tilley marks a milestone for SEVENMARKS Gallery as she becomes the first early-career artist to hold a solo exhibition in the space.
Working out of Southern lutruwita/Tasmania, she continues her exploration of making in response to life marked by the celestial seasons. This exhibition traverses time as it passes over the 22nd of September, the southern hemisphere’s vernal equinox; a day that marks the pivot between days of longer darkness to those of longer light.
Drawing from moments in landscapes across this continent, Equinox examines concepts of balance, growth, rebirth, and the tension of shifting power between opposing forces within the yearly cycle. The contrasts between light and dark, abstract and figurative, delicacy and strength – these concepts appear equally as physical landscapes and emotional spaces that exist within. These landscapes are not defined by a calendar as such, but a deep orientation of life to the broader environmental forces that shape it.
